I was told this fish was from a creek next to someone's cabin up on the Mogollon Rim, I think. Up until then I had heard rumors of trout in Arizona, but hadn't fly fished there at all myself. So I accepted the photograph for a reference and painted the piece. Sight fishing is about retraining the eyes, and with the help of polarized glasses, looking for hints and shadows and other little abbreviated clues that that is a fish, and not just underwater salad waving in the current.
