Kelly Creek is where I was finally won over to fly fishing, and this was among my first fly fishing art paintings. Kelly is a perfect combination of just remote enough, just big enough, and brimming over with eager Westslope Cutthroats.
I recall the first morning of that first day, we decided to hike upstream from our campground for one full hour along this trail that sat mostly above the river, providing the painfully beautiful view. It was painful because of the restraint it took to not just shimmy down the hill and start our fishing before our one hour hike was up. We timed it about right though and by the time we had fished every hole we saw at a leisurely pace on the way downstream, we got back to camp about a half hour before dusk. We were worn out but well-served by the river that gently carried us back to suppertime with it's reasonable current.
